New Reverb Plugin: Eventide Mangledverb – a Good Reverb Gone Bad

Eventide has been busy lately. They blurred the lines between delay and reverb with their recent UltraTap plug-in which I reviewed here. Now reverb and distortion are married together in a very original new plug-in called Mangledverb.

Mangledverb – a Good Reverb Gone Bad

Mangledverb’s reverb algorithms have been ported directly from Eventide’s H9 Harmonizer hardware unit, and are capable of creating everything from lush reverbs to distortion laden sound sculpting chaos!

In addition to standard reverb controls, it also provides for a frequency based overdrive and wobble effect to be blended into the reverb path. And as with UltraTap, it is designed for morphing parameters in real time via the Ribbon control and HotSwitch button.

The Ribbon is an easily programmable macro that controls multiple parameters simultaneously. The HotSwitch is used to jump between two snapshots.

Eventide playfully describes Mangledverb as a good reverb gone bad. This plug-in adds a lot of edgy aggressive over the top personality into what we think of as traditional reverb. It’s fun, it’s dirty, it’s trashy, and ships with a ton of inspiring presets to get you started.

  • Create other-worldly soundscapes by increasing the reverb Size and Overdrive.
  • Use the plugin as Mono-In/Mono-Out, Mono-In/Stereo-Out or Stereo-In/Stereo-Out for ultimate flexibility.
  • Smoothly move from a subtle Softclip distortion to complete Overdrive for ripping transitions.
  • Use the Wobble control to make hair-raising detuning effects.
  • In a live performance situation, use The Ribbon control to manipulate multiple reverb parameters.
  • Program the HotSwitch to instantly change multiple parameters at once.
  • Mangledverb is optimized for live use with MIDI control of The Ribbon and Tap Tempo for quick meta-control on the fly.
  • Use Mix Lock to scroll through presets while keeping the wet-dry mix constant.
